KEEP THE DREAMS IN THE MIDST OF PANDEMIC
On March 2, 2020 was the first time the government announced the first two cases of COVID-19 positive patients became the beginning of a change in the lives of Indonesians. The increasing number of cases causes new things to happen in the community. Social, economic, cultural, educational, and sports interactions are also affected.
A series of sports events both nationally and internationally have been delayed until cancellation due to fears of coronavirus transmission. National Sports Week (PON) X Papua to the largest multi-pronged event in the Olympics that is planned to be held in Tokyo became two of the many events that were finally postponed until 2021.
Previously, several sports federations in this country had well-planned plans throughout 2020 in preparing their athletes to perform optimally in the events to be participated in. In fact, some of them since the beginning of the year have carried out such preparation plans in the Olympic National Training (Pelatnas) program and COVID-19 pandemic is messing with all that.
However, adaptation to the changing circumstances during the pandemic was pursued by a team of coaches of a number of sports, giving up is not the answer to the condition.
Different packaged exercise programs adjust to conditions that are not ideal at the moment, one of which is joint exercise using the video conferencing service in each athlete's home. Led by South Korea's head coach Shin Tae-yong, the national under-19 football team conducted the program during training camp in the face of the 2020 AFC U-19 Cup and the 2021 U-20 World Cup. From his home in Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency, West Java, the under-19 striker who is also a junior team player of Persija Jakarta, Sutan Zico did the long-distance training.
Training independently at home is also an option for some athletes in maintaining their performance. 75-kilogram boxer Michael Muskita lives alone in the housing estate where he lives in Sumur Batu Village, Babakan madang, Bogor Regency. The poorly maintained park became a makeshift gym for Michael to be ready for the Duia Boxing Championships in France as well as qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.
Like Michael the Nyong Ambon, self-training is also done by pewushu Nadya Permata. The winner of two silvers in the World Wushu Junior Cheese 2018 number did so in the apartment environment where he lived in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. Qualifying in PON X Papua became Nadya's ambition after moving from junior to senior class.
Although his flagship number was not competed in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, taekwondoin Defia Rosmaniar also abstained from training during this pandemic. In order to maintain his body condition, the athlete from Bogor continued to train independently in the house he had just bought after his great success in the 2018 Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang. Performing at the maximum in PON X Papua, Islamic Solidarity Games, and Sea Games in 2021 is the motivation for Defia to remain optimal in training, even with rough conditions.
In a village south of Indramayu Regency, West Java, Lena and Leni, the twin sisters of the Indonesian takraw football team undergo training independently. Rice fields and a modest sports arena became a lunar crater for the 2019 Sea Games silver medalist in forging himself to improve the rankings at a similar sporting event next year in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic is also a grief for basketball players, including Amartha Hangtuah club who are struggling to improve their ranking in indonesia basketball league (IBL) 2020. Not only the competition was stopped, large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) in Jakarta and surrounding areas made a number of amartha hangtuah basketball players from outside Jabodetabek undergo self-isolation in mes provided by the club in Kemang, Jakarta. Even so, training with limited facilities in mes is still conducted intensively by them under the supervision of the coaching team so that the target of qualifying for the final four (top four) of IBL 2020 can be achieved.
Luckier conditions occur in shooting branches. Due to minimal contact with outside the team, the two shooting branches continued at the Senayan Shooting Range, Jakarta. Despite ensuring one Olympic ticket through vidya rafika, training with stricter health protocols continues to be boosted so that the target of adding representatives in the Olympics can be achieved.
Like the shooting branch, Pelatnas paddles also continued to run during this pandemic in Jatiluhur Reservoir, Purwakarta Regency, West Java. Far from residential areas and downtown areas and minimal interaction with the general public, it is the reason the National Assembly continues to run in order to meet the target of sending representatives to the Tokyo Olympics.
However, vigilance is still exercised by implementing stricter health protocols such as travel bans, including returning home to each athlete. The atmosphere must have happened to some athletes who have not been able to go home to meet their families during Eid al-Fitr in May 2020. However, the longing must be resistant athletes for their efforts in maintaining dreams in the midst of this pandemic.
