DESTROY MARIJUANA IN ACEH

Convoy of vehicles from the combined police and military personnel enter an open field when overcast sky blanketed Seulawah mountains to hold a rally at the foot of Gunungan Seulawah, Lamteuba settlement, Seulimum District, Aceh Besar District, Aceh.

About 200 joint police, military and supported by the off-road car community are preparing to go to location of the marijuana fields. The terrain that has to be traversed is very challenging, several times off-road vehicles have been forced to retreat due to steep rocky inclines, holes and also muddy. The unit managed to reach first post, luckily that morning there was no rain and it is the last point that vehicles can pass.

Joint unit continued the journey by walking along a shortcut to the location of marijuana fields in the hills of Mount Seulawah. Along the route leading to the marijuana fields, security forces discovered forest damage due to illegal logging. Large tree pieces and processed wood are still lying around as if they have not been transported by illegal logging actors.

Police and military personnel finally arrive at marijuana fields about two hours on foot from the location of the last stop. There are about 10 hectares of ready-to-harvest marijuana plants scattered in two adjoining locations in the Seulawah mountain forest.

Three to four month-old marijuana plants found in the Seulawah mountain forest area, some of which have flowered and some have dried leaves. Officers also find thousands of marijuana seedlings that had not yet been moved to the planting site, the annihilation of marijuana plants started by pulling it out and then burning it.

Unfortunately, police do not succeed in arresting the perpetrators. National Police said the discovery of marijuana fields was based on reports from local community and its location is not far from residential areas or farm-owned farms.

Since the last few years, anti-drug operations to eradicate marijuana have been intensively carried out by the authorities in various remote areas and in the interior of Aceh. Due to the difficulty of the terrain and the remote location in the middle of mountain forest, police have not succeeded in arresting the perpetrator or the owner of marijuana fields.

Hopefully in the future National Police will succeed in arresting the perpetrators of marijuana growers and breaking the chain of reducing the banned plant, so that Aceh is no longer referred to as the marijuana barn in Indonesia.
